We left Dunlap, TN and headed south. We both love Dunlap so much and it was hard to leave a place that already feels like home.

Justin and Tia from 4 Seasons Contracting picked up some new culvert pipes today to fix our road. It may not seem exciting to most but to us those are the most beautiful culvert pipes we’ve ever seen.

We stopped at a Buc-ee’s to charge the cars and found a funny sign in the dog walk area.

We traveled to a campground in Georgia which we stayed at when we first started Our Epic Trip in 2023. This campground is in a completely dead small town but there are pecan trees on the property and they encourage you to collect the fallen pecans. Fresh pecans are sooooo good!

We stayed home and did laundry today. Daniel worked on the house plans. We also picked up a bunch of pecans.

Finished laundry and gave the boys a bath. Daniel worked on house plans some more. I made lentil crackers.

The work on our road starts today! We are so excited to have someone as knowledgeable as Justin doing the work and we can’t wait to be able to easily drive up to our property.

Hung out and did nothing. We needed down time after our time in Dunlap. I finished the book Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune. I loved reading this series! The first book started out slow but the series turned out to be fun and heartwarming. I totally relate to the seven year old antichrist character, Lucy. I really hope there is a third book.

We also learned the history of Vidalia onions which are sweet and do not elicit a strong eye-tearing response. They are sweet due to the low-sulfur soil in certain areas of Georgia. Commercial cultivation is legally limited to 20 counties in Georgia. Daniel loves Vidalia onions.

We decided we had been lazy long enough and it was time for an adventure day. We started with a visit to the Georgia State Cotton Museum in Vienna, GA. We had stopped here and spent the afternoon learning about cotton with a lovely woman named Christine Kingdom who grew up in the area and picked cotton with her family. Unfortunately, the museum was closed today.

You’ve probably noticed by now that I like “World’s Largest” things. So we made sure to see the World’s Largest Peanut Monument in Ashburn, GA.

Next we went to the hometown of President Jimmy Carter. Plains, GA is just a tiny town known for growing peanuts. We had visited this town in 2023 but missed an important feature: the Jimmy Carter Smiling Peanut. This toothy legume was used in Jimmy Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign. At 13 feet tall, it is the World’s Second Largest Peanut and a top 50 roadside attraction in America.

On the way home yesterday, we did some grocery shopping at a Walmart in Americus, GA. Not only did we have a nice conversation with our cashier but we also found beans and legumes we had never seen in a grocery store before: pink beans, field peas, and pigeon peas. I made the pink beans last night using my new favorite method to make beans – the slow cooker! I make beans in the slow cooker just about every night. Not only does the slow cooker help keep the camper warm but we wake up to freshly made beans! You can prepare any dried bean in a slow cooker except kidney beans which require a higher cooking temperature to destroy a naturally occurring toxin.
