We got new front tires put on our Tesla Model X. Yay! We’ve had a slow leak for about a week. Luckily, we haven’t needed to go anywhere.

Marcel had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon to assess for possible surgery due to a torn cranial cruciate ligament in his hind left leg. Surgery was recommended by Dr. Daniel Degner and he is scheduled for tomorrow. He growled at everyone he saw. They said he was really sweet but scared when they took him in the back to evaluate his leg. He was so scared he peed on the floor. Our poor baby!!

We dropped Marcel off for surgery on his leg this morning. They gave us medication to help with his anxiety but he still growled at everyone. On the way home, we saw a rainbow sun halo which seemed like a sign of good omen.

We met with our friends, Rob and Eda, at Kensington Metropark. Near the Nature Center, you can feed the wild birds from your hand. If you hold some birdseed in your hand, birds will land on your hand and grab some food.

We went for a walk on the paved path. Peter loved the walk.

We talked to Dr. Daniel Degner: Marcel’s surgery went well. His cranial cruciate ligament, equivalent to a human ACL, was completely torn and part of the meniscus was torn too. He’s not awake yet. We’ll be so happy to pick him up tomorrow!

We had dinner at Detroit Street Filling Station (100% vegan) and saw another rainbow sun halo on our drive there.

We picked Marcel up from his surgery. He is still really sedate so he just slept with his head on my lap the whole way home. I was in heaven to have him back with our family.

Poor Marcel was so lethargic today. The vet recommended he be kept quiet for three months with only leash walks allowed. So we got him a cage, which takes up most of the floor space in our camper, because he can be such a high-energy Tasmanian devil when the spirit hits him. He loves pouncing on his brother and running zoomies especially at Grandpa and Grandma’s house.

My brother, Alex, came to visit us today. We had Marcel in a cage to keep him quiet but he was literally screaming so we had to carry him in the house and hold him down until he settled. He’s such a social butterfly.

My dad and Alex were finally able to tell Daniel about the time in ~2000 when a large UFO very slowly went close by the house hovering just above the trees. Alex described it like an elongated disco ball. They both said it hovered near the windows. A neighbor who had been driving up the road said he saw it slowly cross the road and then quickly zoom away. So many people saw it in the area that it was in the newspaper and Alex’s teacher discussed it in class. I couldn’t find any media reports of this UFO sighting but I did learn that Michigan is a hotspot for UFO sightings. A famous 1966 UFO sighting had the federal government investigating the event and then quickly declaring it was “swamp gas”.

Marcel is back to normal mentally. If you are in Michigan, we highly recommend Daniel Degner, DVM of Animal Surgical Center of Michigan in Flint. Marcel has had two very successful surgeries with him. Poor Marcel has to tolerate his leg being heated and then iced.

Daniel finished installing the shelf he made for my plants. I’m so happy!! Now they have a safe place to travel and I won’t have to move them to the bathtub every time we travel to a new location.

It’s now the fourth day after Marcel’s surgery so we started his therapy. He really is an exceptional boy. He’s so eager to please. I know some of the therapy moves were uncomfortable for him but he listened when we told him to lie back down so we could continue. It’s going to be a long three months.

Daniel has exciting news! He has been requested to give a talk at a medical school in Nashville, TN on Food is Medicine.

It rained all day! We haven’t experienced all day rain in two years! Daniel loves rain so it was a fun day of listening to the rain hit our roof and awning.
