We took a morning walk in the misty rain. Up the road from the campground is a horse farm. It’s very picturesque with rolling hills and mountains in the background. We noticed the horses were wearing a grazing muzzle, a device to prevent them from eating too much grass.

We got Tennessee plates for the Cybertruck! We got a pretty plate with the Smoky Mountains and a black bear. An employee of the DMV asked if she could take a picture of our truck because her nephews and nieces love Cybertrucks. So we took a picture of her in the truck so she could have bigger bragging rights.

In the Walmart parking lot, a nice lady wanted to make sure we knew that a man got into an accident with his Cybertruck which caught on fire and he couldn’t get out. People are friendly here!

We also went to Pikeville, TN where we paid our property taxes and had a long chat with people in the cash office. One of the reasons we love this area is the people. We run into so many friendly people willing to chat.

We went to Fall Creek Falls State Park which is only about a 40 minute drive from our property. The leaves were in almost full color. We stopped at The Lodge at Fall Creek Falls first. It’s pretty and modern. It’s right on a lake and there is a bike path that takes you right to the waterfall.

Next we went to the main waterfall. Fall Creek Falls is 256 feet tall and is the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. The water plunges into a gorge which contains one of the last remaining virgin forests in the Southeast. We also took a hike to the Fall Creek Falls Betty Dunn Nature Center. The path took us over a suspension bridge that bounced so much it was difficult to not run into the people passing by.

Fall Creek Falls State Park was established in 1935 as a National Recreation Demonstration Area. The area was transformed from farmland and coal mining operations into natural beauty by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression. The Nation Parks Service managed the park until 1944 when it was converted into a Tennessee State Park.

We met Dan and Tegan Funk for drinks at Sequatchie Valley Brewing Co. Dan is our excavator who narrowly escaped death putting in our septic system and met Jesus on our road. They somewhat lovingly refer to our road as the Dubay Rubicon or “Dubicon”. The Rubicon is a famous 22 mile long, off-roading trail west of Lake Tahoe in California.

Also, I’m not a fan of beer but I had the most wonderful concoction tonight: Xul Beer Company’s PB&J Mixtape: Grape.

We drove to Chattanooga, TN. It was another cloudy and misty day but driving through the Sequatchie Valley was still spectacular.

We went see the movie Good Fortune and I didn’t like it. Daniel thought it was ok and MacKenzie (Daniel’s daughter is visiting us for a week) loved it. I felt it wasn’t funny and it seemed to really strive to push political ideas. It definitely wasn’t a comedy.

We had dinner at the vegan restaurant Cashew. It was fantastic food and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. The garlic kale was the best kale dish I’ve ever had.

We said goodbye to MacKenzie this morning. I did a ton of laundry while Daniel rented equipment and spent a few hours doing some work on the road to our property (the “Dubicon”).

We talked to a neighbor who bought property on our road this year and plans on building a house eventually. She gave us permission to camp on her property while Daniel works on the road. Her property is just past the paved portion of the road so it will be easy to get the camper there.

Our 8 quart pressure cooker quit working (it was 15+ years old) so we ordered a new pressure cooker and used it tonight for the first time. One of the things I loved about the old Fagor pressure cooker was the release valve could be just slightly opened to release the pressure after cooking. This prevented it from sputtering liquid all over. Unfortunately, Fagor is no longer in business.

Happy Halloween! I made Balsamic Onion Marmalade in the slow cooker. We shared some with Tim, the campground owner. Daniel loved it but I thought it was just ok.

Two vegans and two vegan dogs traveling the country in a camper pulled by a Tesla. We love being frugal, cooking from scratch, exploring, hiking, and meeting fellow vegans.
