Our neighbor, Earl, who lives down the mountain from us came to finally meet us in person at our campground. We learned a lot of juicy gossip about our property and the previous owner.
Earl said there are at least 2000 caves on the mountain near us and we have a large coal mine opening right next to our upper waterfall. The opening is covered with dirt but Earl suggested it might be a good storm shelter if we opened it back up.
We also learned The Fields, a planned community focused on aircraft, was just a tax write off and it was never really going to come to fruition. We have noticed that the 1400+ acres is up for sale now. That was disappointing news because it sounded like a cool project with restaurants and outdoor activities. Most importantly, The Fields property adjoins our property so we were hoping they would fix and pave our road.
Another interesting fact about Dunlap is that a direct descendent of the Hatfields from the famed Hatfield and McCoy feud lives and owns several businesses in Dunlap.
We had previously contacted the owner of property on our road to ask about boondocking. She said it was ok so we moved up there today and as a thank you we will be picking up any garbage we find near our campsite. It’s a beautiful area full of trees, peace, and quiet.

Today is the second anniversary of Our Epic Trip. Check out our thoughts on traveling the country for two years.
The boys and I hung out in the camper while Daniel used the jackhammer on The Dubicon. Daniel got a flat tire on the truck so he had to deal with that. The Dubicon has given us a couple flat tires.
I made potato soup in the slow cooker. It was pretty good but I need to tinker with the recipe to make it great.

We took the boys for a walk up the road to our property. The fall colors are really popping. It’s been raining quite a bit so we were hoping our little stream would be flowing better but it wasn’t. Peter loves going in the muddy water by the upper waterfall. We will definitely need an outdoor shower for him once we start living here.

We drove to Chattanooga, TN for medical appointments. Neither one of us has had a physical in the past two years. Luckily, we are very healthy (one of the many benefits of WFPB). The drive there was magical with fog in the valley. The first picture with the power lines is a view from our road. Once we start building our house and clear some trees, we’ll have a gorgeous view like this.
It was such a beautiful day for working on the road. Daniel plugged the jackhammer into the back of the Cybertruck and got to work. Tim from R and R RV Campground stopped by too. We found a phasmid, otherwise known as a walking stick bug.
We ended the night with a version of the garlic kale we had at a restaurant in Chattanooga, TN last week. Once I perfect the recipe and make it whole food, plant based, I’m going to call it Crack Kale.

Daniel was gone most of the day getting the Cybertruck’s wheels aligned. I stayed home and enjoyed cuddling with the boys. We have been letting Marcel back on the bed as he seems to be doing well since the surgery on his leg a month ago. He is still not allowed to jump so we are being very careful.
We also went to our property to get water from our well. The sun was setting and the sky was a beautiful color.

We met our insurance agent, Shelli. She is so nice! We know that the different mountain areas are named and people will ask what mountain you live on. We learned that our mountain is most likely Smith Mountain.
We went for a date in Chattanooga, TN. It’s so nice to have a larger city nearby for fun activities and shopping. We went back to the restaurant Cashew and I had the Garlicky Kale again. That stuff is so good!
